Menopausal symptoms after cancer are often more severe, persistent and distressing than at natural menopause. Symptoms include hot flushes and night sweats, sleep disturbance, arthralgia, sexual dysfunction and mood disorders. These symptoms significantly impact quality of life and adherence to cancer treatment. Menopausal hormone therapy is an effective treatment for menopausal symptoms, but is often contraindicated in women with cancer, especially in those with hormone receptor positive breast cancer. Non-hormonal treatments exist but more effective treatments are required. This presentation will focus on the management of menopausal symptoms in women with breast cancer and summarise the available non-hormonal treatment options.
